Poker After Dark Gus Hansen

PokerNews Staff

This week PokerGO featured two nights' worth of mixed game fun on Poker After Dark, presented under the heading of 'Godfather Week' thanks to the participation of Poker Hall of Famer Doyle Brunson.

  1. Gus Hansen made his way to Las Vegas last week to take part in the Poker After Dark series, and then found some time to take in a few more hands w. Ith some other high-stakes pros in Bobby’s.
  2. The second season of Poker after dark. In “International” week, Gus Hansen was knocked out after 6 hands, and heads-up play started after 53 hands, both record lows for the show. Week 8 (Mega Match) required a $50,000 buy-in rather than the usual $20,000, resulting in a $300,000 first prize.

In 2017, Gus Hansen said that he had been involved in a music business in Denmark but declared that 'it went probably as bad as my online poker career!' Hansen was voted one of People magazine's 50 Sexiest Men in 2004. In March 2018, Hansen returned on Poker After Dark to play pot-limit Omaha in a game also featuring Matt Kirk.

Joining Brunson for the rotation of H.O.R.S.E. games plus 2-7 triple draw were Gus Hansen, Brian Rast, Scott Seiver, Bryn Kenney, Jared Bleznick, and Billy O'Neil, with Dan Cates also taking a seat for the second night.

With limits of $1,500/$3,000, there was a lot of action and some decent-sized pots. One example of both came in a limit hold'em hand between Hansen and Rast, one that began with the often loose Hansen cheekily raising from the hijack seat with just . Rast picked up from the button and three-bet, and when it folded back to Hansen he called.

The flop fell , giving Hansen trips. He checked, then check-raised after Rast bet and got a call. After that initial bit of slow playing, Hansen was ready to play fast and led with the bigger $3K bet on the turn, but alas for him the card was the to give Rast kings full.

'Gussy... that's what you get, pal,' cracked Nick Schulman on the commentary.

Here Rast was the one playing it slow, only calling Hansen's turn bet. Then following the turn card, things get fast again. Take a look, and see whether or not Hansen is ultimately able to find a fold:

On Wednesday, March 7, Gus Hansen returned to Poker After Dark for the first time since 2010 for the second and final day of 'Racks of Lamb', a week dubbed after high-stakes superstar Ben Lamb. The action was broadcast on PokerGO and featured $100/$200 pot-limit Omaha with a mandatory $400 straddle before the stakes doubled to $200/$400 with a mandatory $800 straddle later in the game.

In addition to Hansen, the line-up included Sam Soverel, Matt Kirk, Chris MacFarland, Brian Rast, Len Ashby and of course Lamb, who, on the previous day, booked the biggest profit at the table of more than $250,000.

PokerGO tweeted several of the biggest hands, most of which involved Hansen. While Hansen caused some trouble for his opponents, it was an up and down session for him.

Hansen, who had $26,300 behind, thought about it for a minute, before he called and the other two players followed along to create a massive $121,000 main pot with side pots of $37,000 and $14,000.

Three clubs appeared on both boards to give Soverel a huge scoop and a great start to the match.

Kirk called and action was back on Hansen. Hansen shoved all in and was just about beat to the pot by both Lamb and Kirk.

Kirk scooped up both the $90,100 main pot and the $85,800 side pot after the board ran out with just a pair of aces being the best hand.
